The National Examinations Council (NECO) has acquired and commissioned a high performance Optical Mark Recognition Scanner with the capacity to scan 15,000 sheets per hour.
Commissioning the facility in Minna on Thursday, the Registrar of the Council, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi explained that the Scantron Insight 1500C scanner is known for its precision and the ability to handle large volumes of scripts efficiently.
He said that the use of the scanner will reduce number of days for release of results of the council examinations.
According to him, “at NECO we recognise the pivotal that technology plays in modern educational assessment. As part of our of our mandate to conduct credible examinations, we have consistently sought innovative solutions to improve accuracy, speed and reliability in our examination processing “.
He said that the council began the process to acquire the machine in 2022, adding that, ” the cost of the Scantron Insight 1500C was over N500m then but it is over N700m” due to the fluctuations of the value of Dollars”.
Speaking earlier, the Director of ICT of the Council,  Mr Godwin Osiogu commended the Registrar and the management of NECO for their unwavering support of ICT driven reforms.
He said, “his leadership has been instrumental in driving digital transformation within the council”.
