The Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita Campaign Organization has condemned the arrest of social critic, Dr. Bashir Kurfi by police in Katsina State.
A statement by the spokesman of the group, Abubakar Ahmed described the arrest of the critic as a “blatant violation of his human right and freedom of speech.”
The group called for the immediate release from detention or be charged to court if authorities have a case against him.
It alleged the arrest was part of efforts by the state’s APC leadership “to silence all voices that attempt to checkmate its operations,” particularly on insecurity.
According to the group, Dr. Kurfi has been at the forefront of calls for Governor Dikko Radda’s administration to do more to protect lives and property amid rising insecurity in the state.
The statement also referenced a recent allegation by Dr. Kurfi that the Katsina State government used public funds to sponsor “some bandits” to perform the 2026 Hajj rites in Saudi Arabia.
“We expected both the state government and security agencies to respond in a convincing way rather than through intimidation,” the ABK spokesman said.
The organization urged the Katsina State government to “restrain itself from overheating the political atmosphere” as political activities and campaigns approach in the coming weeks.
It further called on security agencies to remain “apolitical” and to “maintain law and order and not to be lured by those in power to truncate the next election circle.”
