The Executive Committee of the NFF headed by Ibrahim Gusau has been reportedly handed a 24-hour ultimatum to resign following accusation of maladministration, misappropriation and misjudgment.

The order was said to have been given by the National Sports Commission (NSC) and it followed serious concerns by Nigerians over the administration of football in the country.

The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, while their female counterparts, the Super Falcons, followed suit by not qualifying for the 2027 Women’s World Cup for the first time in history.

The NSC were reported to be at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa Wednesday night to meet with presidency on the crisis that has engulfed Nigerian football with another meeting with the Chief of Staff to the president. Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila scheduled for yesterday.

Meanwhile an NFF Board member, Nse Essien yesterday dismissed reports claiming that the Federal Government is demanding the resignation of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) leadership.

“It’s a fake news”, Essien told Sports Vanguard, adding that the report is not true as he insisted that there was no such directive from the Federal Government.

The NFF had fixed September 27 for elections into the executive committee with Gusau seeking a second four-year term but it was gathered that the NSC had postponed it to sort out some burning issues concerning the electoral system.
