The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Professor Nentawe Yilwatda has donated N52m the families of the 37 miners who recently died in custody of the NSCDC in Niger state.
The Chairman made the donation on Tuesday during a sympathy to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger state.
Yilwatda described the incident as saddening saying that the APC is full of emotions over what happened in the State, while he commiserated with the people of Niger State, government and the entire citizens of Nigeria over the incident.
” Let me reassured the farmers Governor of our continued support in his quest of providing good governance to the people”, he said.
Responding, Governor Umaru Bago expressed appreciation to the APC National Chairman and members of the NWC for the condolence visit, describing the gesture as significant and a demonstration of solidarity with the State at a difficult time.
Bago announced that Prof. Yilwatda had personally donated ₦1 million each to the families of the 37 deceased persons and ₦500,000 each to persons who were arrested and injured in connection with the incident.
He said, “The disbursement of the money will be done by the Deputy Governor led committee and the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umaru Faruk Bahago”.
He said that the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the miners remained a matter of serious concern, adding that the committees set up to inquire about the incident are working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
