The Pro- Chancellor of El-Amin University Minna, Dr Mohammed Babangida has expressed the determination and committed of the University to training, mentor and raise ethical leaders who will take the country to greater heights and development.

This, he explained, is in fulfilment of the dreams and aspirations of late Dr Maryam Babangida, the founder of the University and El-Amin Schools.

The Pro Chancellor stated this at the weekend in Minna at the university Founder Day celebration in honour of the former first lady, late Dr Maryam Babangida

He said, “The EL Amin University is one of the legacies of my mother, late Dr Maryam Babangida in the education sector. Here, we continue to preach, mentor and demonstrate what it requires to be an ethical leader. It goes beyond the classroom. Like I earlier said, it is about the values that you bring forward “.

The Pro Chancellor announced the institution of Maryam Babangida Annual Memorial Scholarship Award for best performing students in various faculties of the University in honour of the his late mother and founder of the University and El-Amin Schools.

He said, “what we decided to do in this first this first memorial scholarship is to give out cash awards. This will help relief some of the hardships they are going through personally and also in offsetting some of their school fee”.

Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of Al Amin University, Dr Emmanuel Zwanbin said all the faculties of the University embodied Dr Maryam Babangida’s vision of providing quality education that prepares students for real world challenges while maintaining high ethical standards.

He said, “Today as we remember Dr Maryam Babangida, we are not just looking at back at her achievements and legacies. We are looking forward to continuing her legacy to raise ethical leaders who will make positive impact in Nigeria and the world at large “.

In a lecture titled, ” Education, Innovation and Excellence, a path to Ethical Leadership: The Maryam Babangida Model”, Dr. Maryam Lemu of the Islamic Education Trust Fund, called on leaders and citizens to imbibe ethical behaviours in their various endeavours to move the nation forward.
