The Niger South Senior Stakeholders have called for the swift completion of the Lapai-Agaie-Bida road to curb the rising number of accidents on the route.

They said despite the recent rehabilitation of the Lambata-Lapai road, the deteriorating condition of the Lapai-Agaie-Bida section has resulted in significant loss of life in recent times.

The interim coordinator of the forum, Dr. Mohammed Kudu Santuraki, the Santurakin Nupe, made the call in a statement on Wednesday.

Santuraki made a poignant reference to a recent tragic road accident on the Lapai-Agaie road, which resulted in the loss of 13 lives.

He particularly noted the heartbreaking loss of three members from the same family, emphasizing the urgent need for attention to be focused on rehabilitating this critical road.

The Santuraki said: “Tragically, one Alhaji Adamu Ndace lost two wives and his eldest daughter in a horrific accident on the Lapai-Agaie road recently. Another daughter is currently in the hospital recovering. In total, about 13 lives were lost in that single accident.

“This tragedy underscores the urgency of fixing our roads—an issue I recently raised regarding the federal government’s budget proposal for road repairs in Niger State. Bad roads claim lives daily, and because every human life is valuable, fixing all roads must be a priority.”
