The Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO) has inaugurated the Association of Retired National Examinations Council Staff of Nigeria (ARNECSON) with the retirees demanding of payment of outstanding allowances and improved welfare packages.

Speaking at the inauguration on Wednesday at NECO headquarters in Minna, the Chairman of the Board of NECO Retirees, Emmanuel Philip  lamented that many of his members are unable to access their  benefits years after retirement.
Represented by the Secretary of the board, George Chukwuka Eledo, the Chairman said, ” we are not happy about the dropping of our members from monitoring examinations by the council. We should be captured not as external monitors but insiders. Nothing stops us from becoming veterans”.
” While we commend the Registrar for creating the enabling environment for the inauguration of ARNECSON, we want to appeal to him to consider our demand for payment of our arrears and other retirement money or allowances. We are hopeful that you will not deny us this entitlements “.
In a goodwill message, the Chairman of the Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions ( NASU) NECO chapter, Comrade Terngu Iorshagher said that the union will back the retirees in pressing for enhanced welfare packages and payment of retirement benefits.
He expressed appreciation to NECO management for facilitating the establishment of the ARNECSON, adding that, ” there is room for improvement on policies, therefore all hope is not lost. NASU is aware that the Registrar has begun to implement policies aimed at improving welfare packages for serving and retired staff “.
The Registrar, Professor Dantani Wushishi represented by a Director of the Council, Suleiman Adeguoke promised to look into the demands of the association.
He commended the retirees for their selfless service to the council adding that NECO will continue to appreciate their contributions to its development.
Mr Abdullahi Roland Williams was inaugurated as the National President of ARNECSON while Mr Charles Eguaikhide was sworn in as the Secretary General of the association  along with other executive members.
