    Suspected suicide bomber kill self, injured 2 others near Abuja military barack

    A suspected suicide bomber has lost his life and injured two others near the Mogadishu Cantonment in Abuja, sources said.

    The sources said the incident occured at about 2:32pm on Monday.

    The military source told our correspondent that the suicide bomber dressed in white and blue colour T-shirt tried to entered the Cantonment after alighting from a car under the pedestrian bridge.

    The source said: “At about 2: 32pm on May 26, unidentified individual with planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) made attempted to infiltrate into Mogadishu Cantonment after dropping fm a Golf car around Mogadishu Cantonment under the pedestal bridge close to the checkpoint where passengers do drop before walking to take keke to the Cantonment.

    “When his movement become suspicious, he was stopped by the Military Police personnel on duty who asked him to shift back for proper identification and only for him to move few meters away and the IED he was carrying exploded killing him and injured two others.

    “The Injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Defence Medical Centre. Meanwhile EOD team consisting Nigeria Police personnel arrived the scene and cordon off the place for scanning while corps of the victim was moved for further investigations.”

    The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the explosion but said the incident happened along Mararaba-Nyanya bypass.

    A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, also said one man was rescued and taken to hospital for medical attention.

    “On May 26th, 2025 at approximately 2:50 PM, the FCT Police Command received a distress report regarding an explosion along Mararaba-Nyanya bypass.

    “Upon receipt of the report, officers of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit were immediately deployed to the scene. The affected area was swiftly cordoned off for analysis to ensure the safety of commuters and residents.

    “One male victim was rescued at the scene and promptly taken to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention.

    “A comprehensive investigation has commenced, including detailed forensic analysis, to ascertain the exact cause and nature of the explosion.

    “The FCT Police Command urges members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear, as there is currently no cause for alarm.

    “Residents are also enjoined to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons, objects, or movements to the nearest police station,” she said.
