    Niger : Police arrest 34 suspects for thuggery, robbery, illicit drugs

    The police in Niger state have arrested 34 criminal suspects in connection with thuggery, robbery and dealing in illicit drugs.
    The Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun stated this in a statement issued in Minna on Thursday.
    He listed two of the suspects as girls named Jamila Nuhu 23yrs of Limawa and  Fatima Mohammed 20yrs of Angwan-Daji in Minna, adding that they stole 15 wrappers and other household items.
    “On 3rd July, 2025 based on a direct complaint received at ‘A’ Div Minna that a suspected house help has been stealing some of their properties within Limawa area of Minna, and in the course of the investigation, the suspect one Jamila Nuhu 23yrs of Limawa was arrested in connection with the theft”, he said.
    He said that during interrogation, she confessed to the theft in conspiracy with a friend of hers; Fatima Mohammed 20yrs of  Angwan-Daji. She was also
    SP Abiodun said that In view of the recent public unrest, thuggery and robbery activities around Kafintella/Samande area of Tunga Minna where some miscreants engaged in a rival clash over illegal mining on 29th June, 2025, adding that ” The DPO of Tudun-Wada Div mobilised patrol teams to the area and one Salisu Kabiru of Samande was arrested”
    According to him, in the course of investigation, he mentioned others as Sadiq Dan Banga, Dan Jabi, Sarauta, Baba yellow, and fifteen others as the group causing unrest in the area”.
    “Consequently, on 5th and 6th July, 2025 the Police patrol teams led by the DPO raided the area and twenty-one suspects were arrested within the two nights, with recovery of four motorcycles, four cutlasses, three knives, cannabis and other illicit drugs”.
    Meanwhile the police have also arrested eight other suspects with dangerous weapons, Bags of cannabis, alcoholic beverages and other illicit drugs.
    He said, “on 7th July, 2025 at about 3a.m, Police operatives of Tactical Support Team (TST) of the Command arrested eight suspects during a raid of criminal hideouts and blackspots in Gulu area of Lapai based on credible information of dealing in illicit drugs and other substances in the area”.
    He said that the suspects were arrested in possession of suspected cannabis, suspected cannabis seeds, amulets, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, other illicit drugs and dangerous weapons including large machetes, knives, large sickles and clubs.
    “On 4th July 2025 at about 10am, information was received that a dispatch motorcycle was stolen from Lagos State and it was discovered to be on transit en route within Niger State, along Lambata-Lapai road.
