Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has flagged off the construction of 24.5km Wamba-Dengi-Alizaga road connecting Wamba to Nassarawa Eggon local government area of the state.

The contract for the road was awarded to Centerfield Engineering Limited at the cost of N9,061,627,000.00.

Speaking during the flagging off the project on Friday, Governor Sule said, when completed, the road would serve as a vital economic corridor, connecting communities and boosting agriculture, commerce and ease mobility in the area.

He noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration in the state recognized the significance of opening up rural roads, as it provided the enablement for the transportation of agricultural produce and other economic commodities from the remote parts to markets in urban centres.

“This is why our Administration over the last six (6) years has continued to construct rural roads in order to actualize our dream of opening vistas of opportunities for the rural dwellers.

“You are aware, since our assumption of office in May, 2019, we have continued to provide infrastructural development, ranging from roads, markets, electrification, among others.

“In particular, we have constructed rural roads in most of our rural areas in order to create inter-connectivity among our communities with proven potentials for socio-economic development. This is in line with our policy of opening opportunities for improved economic activities and wellbeing of the people.

“Accordingly, we have conceived the idea for the construction of this road project which is considered critical in our development endeavour,” he explained.

According to him, the 24.5km Wamba-Waiye-Dengi-Alizaga Road project would be under the supervision of the Nasarawa State Bureau for Rural Development.

He reiterated the commitment of his administration to providing infrastructural development for socio-economic development of the state.

“The construction of this road is a testament to our resolve of leaving no community behind in our development endeavour to ensure that development reaches the grassroots. It is our desire that we have a prosperous, secured and connected Nasarawa State,” he stated.

The governor urged the contractor handling the project to ensure that its construction is in line with specifications and safety standards.

He appealed to the host communities within the road corridor to accord the contractor the cooperation and support required for the successful execution of the project.

“You are expected to protect lives and equipment, as well as maintaining peace while the construction lasts,” he noted.
