The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mathew Dogara Daje, as the winner of Munya state Constituency bye-election conducted into tne Niger state House of Assembly.
Daje was declared winner having polled 12, 556 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Sabo Sunday Adabyinlo who got 5, 546 votes.
The INEC Returning Officer, Professor Abdulkarim Saka of FUT Minna, made the announcement after the conclusion of the election at Sarkin Pawa headquarters of Munya local government .
According to him, “the bye-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the Niger State House of Assembly following the death of Joseph Haruna Duza of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”.
In a reaction to the result of the bye election, The PDP candidate,. Sabo Sunday Adabyinlo, alleged that state resources were used to influence the election in favour of the APC, accusing the ruling party of vote buying and intimidation.
In his acceptance remarks, APC’s Mathew Dogara Daje expressed gratitude to Governor Umaru Bago and APC supporters across Munya Local Government for their support during the election.
While observers and residents commended the peaceful conduct of the poll.
