National Union of Textile and Garment Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, has said it suspended the Comrade Oche Mike Onyebuchi-led state executive of the union in Edo state indefinitely for bringing the union to disrepute.

The union said the Oche-led exco was suspended for misleading the public over his membership of the Prof. Monday Igbafe-led caretaker committee of the state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

The deputy general secretary, Comrade Emeka Nkwoala, announced the suspension after a meeting of the zonal organs of the union.

“As it is now, we have suspended the Oche Mike Onyebuchi-led state executive till further notice. That was the resolution we reached with the various state chairmen of our zone in Benin.

He said the decision was in tandem with the resolution of the national Administrative Council of the union, noting, “they can’t represent the union anywhere in whatever capacity in Edo and Nigeria.”

According to him, the national president of NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, nominated Oche as member of the Prof. Monday Igbafe-led caretaker committee.

“We consulted Comrade Oche who agreed to be member of the committee and was nominated and sworn in. But on Monday, we read of his resignation from the social media, saying he was coerced into accepting the offer. And he didn’t informed the union of his resignation.

“We felt that he has dragged the union to disrepute because he was duly consulted and agreed to be a member of the committee, he should have communicated to us,” he said.

He explained that during the meeting, they pleaded to write an apology letter to the national body and opted for suspension instead of dissolution.

He said during the meeting, Oche denied granting an interview but said he resigned from the committee due to pressure and the believe that it was against the government.

He said the union’s National Administrative Council in its meeting via zoom resolved that the Edo state chapter of the union be dissolved.
