The Police Service Commission has begun a crucial training for its staff as part of moves to implement the Federal Government’s directive to recruit 50,000 additional personnel into the Nigeria Police Force.

The Commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Njoku Kalu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The workshop, which opened in Abuja, is aimed at equipping staff with the skills and procedural knowledge required to handle what officials described as a landmark recruitment exercise.

Declaring the session open on behalf of the PSC Chairman, Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (retd.) said the exercise was a practical step towards strengthening internal security in line with the vision of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Galumje conveyed the goodwill of the PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd.), noting that he would join the training after another official engagement.

“This directive is as a result of the President’s concern about security in the country,” Galumje said, urging participants to work diligently to ensure the successful implementation of the recruitment process.

He charged the staff to listen attentively and contribute meaningfully during the sessions so as to guarantee a transparent and credible exercise.

In his keynote address, Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on NPF Matters, Taiwo Lakanu (retd.), described the planned recruitment as a bold and timely intervention to address growing security challenges nationwide.

Lakanu commended the PSC leadership for anchoring the process on transparency and professionalism, stressing that the calibre of those recruited would shape the future effectiveness of the police.

“This training provides an opportunity to refresh your knowledge, address grey areas and ensure uniformity in implementation,” he said.

He reminded participants that they were ambassadors of the Commission and warned that their conduct would either reinforce or diminish public trust in public institutions.

The interactive training is expected to focus on recruitment guidelines, ethical standards and legal compliance to ensure the exercise is fair, inclusive and credible.
