The withdrawal of military personnel from Allawa and other communities in Shiroro local government area of Niger state has brought unprecedented setback to the state government’s efforts in tackling insecurity across the state.
The Acting Governor of the state, Comrade Yakubu Garba stated this at the 3rd Day Fidda’u prayer for 13 victims killed in a recent attack in Anguwan Maigero community in Shiroro local government of the state.
The Acting Governor was accompanied by the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago, to the prayer session held at Kuta Central Mosque, Headquarters of the local government.
He said, “I therefore appealed to the Nigerian Army to as a matter of urgency redeploy its personnel withdrawn from Allawa and other communities prone to bandits attacks in the state. The absence of security in these communities have further endangered the lives of our defenseless people in the hands of the bandits “.
Nexter learnt that the deceased lost their lives when they were ambushed by bandits while going to their farms.
Expressing concern and regret over unfortunate incident, Comrade Garba said, ” the withdrawal of military personnel from Allawa and other communities has brought a setback to the state government’s efforts in tackling insecurity across the state”.
“I want to appeal to our military to see reasons to go back to Allawa and other prone area to give full security cover to our people who are predominantly farmers,” he said.
He explained that those killed in the recent attack were displaced farmers who left the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp to their farms outside the camp, but were ambushed by the bandits while on their way.
While commending the state Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago for deploying strategies to end insecurity in the state, the Acting Governor lambasted those people who are accusing government of not making efforts to address the insecurity challenges adding that, “it is their personal opinion and fallacies aimed at blackmailing the the government”.
Garba insisted the security situation in the state has improved tremendously and now better than it was two year ago.
