The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives have arrested a former governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello, for alleged financial misconduct during his tenure.
The former governor, it was gathered, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Abuja.
EFCC spokesperson, Mr. Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrest to journalists.
“We have arrested him. Our chief security officer arrested him, and he was brought in at 12:54 pm.
“He is currently undergoing interrogation and remains in our custody,” he said.
He said that Yahaya Bello, who was declared wanted by the commission, never submitted himself but got arrested by the operatives of the agency in Abuja.
He said the former governor is having a session with investigators.
NEXTER reports that the EFCC had filed fresh charges against Bello on September 25, accusing him of N110 billion fraud.
The commission had initially filed 19 charges against the former Kogi governor, along with his nephew Ali Bello, Dauda Suliman, and Abdulsalam Hudu, for money laundering offences amounting to N80,246,470,088.88.
The Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Maitama, Abuja, had dismissed the oral bail applications of Abdulsalam Hudu and Umar Oricho, who are co-defendants of Yahaya Bello in the N110.4billion fraud case preferred again them by the EFCC.
