The Dean Students Affairs of the Federal University of Technology Minna, Dr. Bashir Ganiyu has dismissed as misleading and false, the information in social media purporting students accommodation racketeering in the allocation of hostel bed spaces for the 2024/2025 academic year.

The Dean stated this in an interview with Blueprint on Wednesday, explaining that the allocation of hostel accommodation has been very clean this year and in the past three years.

According to him, ” the claim that there is the existence of accommodation racketeering in FUT Minna this year is untrue and loaded with unverified fake information aimed at tarnishing the image and reputation of the University “.

Dr. Ganiyu explained that despite the challenges of inadequate accommodation, the management of the institution has ensured the online allocation of bed spaces to aviod human contacts and curtail corrupt tendencies.

He said, ” the issue of accommodation in FUT Minna is that there are 2,500 bed spaces for both males and females in Gida Kwanu while in Bosso campus we have capacity to accommodate 1200 students. The number of students admitted this year is about 7,400 which has out numbered the available bed spaces assuming that we decided to give all the bed spaces to the new students. But we have returning students who are also requesting for hostel accommodation”.

He explained that hostel accommodation was done online January 15th and 16th for new and old students respectively without interference, adding that there was no human contact as much as possible.

He said that the institution has also eradicated the spurious ways of students booking accommodation to sell to others at inflated amounts, adding that ,we now revoke spaces not paid for within 48 hours “.
