Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger state has described the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari as a loss of an icon of integrity and patriotic leader who lived the life of service to humanity.
The Governor stated this in message by his Chief Press Secretary ( CPS) mourning the passing of the former President in a London hospital on Sunday
He described the late former President as an elder statesman who has etched his name in the annals of Nigeria’s history.
” The former President Buhari has been a very disciplined personality and has lived a life of service to humanity, and dedication to nation-building. He was an icon of integrity and patriotism from when he was a military officer to when he became the Head of State in 1983 and was democratically elected as President in 2015 and 2019″.
He recalled that the deceased had remained steadfast in fighting corruption and making Nigeria better throughout his administration, especially through the numerous initiatives introduced by his government, such as the expansion of rail lines, construction, and rehabilitation of major roads.
The Governorsaidthat late Buhari also touched the lives of Nigerians with the establishment of the Social Investment Programmes (SIP), and agricultural and security reforms, among others, amidst daunting challenges.
According to the Governor, ” the legacies and contributions of President Buhari to the project Nigeria, despite the challenges, cannot be forgotten in a hurry”.
While expressing his deepest condolences to the family of former President Buhari, the government, and the people of Katsina State over the great loss, Governor Bago prayed that Allah will forgive all the shortcomings of the deceased and grant him Aljanna Firdausi.
