Flood has washed away several farms in parts of Niger state prompting the state government to issue fresh evacuation directive to communities to higher grounds out of the flood plane this rainy season
    It was learnt that many
communities in the state are counting their losses as early morning rain on Sunday wrecked havoc and swept away  farm lands in Kafin Koro, Paikoro local government area of the state.
It was also reported that 18 communities in Lapai local government area of the state were affected by the flood disaster in which many farms have been washed away.
Witness account revealed that Dere, Eshi, Apataku, Tsakanabi, Kuchi Kakanda, Arah, Achiba, Rebba, Ebwa, Pele, Edda, Rigido, Gbami, Yawa, Baka, and Muye communities have been endangered by the flood disaster.
Sympathising with the people affected by the flood disaster following heavy rains on Sunday, the Special Adviser to the Governor state Governor on Communication and Media Strategy, Honourable Jonathan Vatsa, said in a statement that government is committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens of the state.
He said, ” Government is very much committed to ensure the safety and protection of all citizens especially in this rainy season. We are aware and have taken cognisance of the flood warnings issued by relevant agencies. Therefore it is expedient on our part as government to appeal to all communities within the flood planes to move to higher ground and aviod future disaster”.
According to him, ” Athough the government understands the attachment to the ancestral homes by these communities, the need for them to adhere to the government warning and relocate pending when the rain will be over is paramount in order to save lives “.
Vatsa explained that the state government will soon embark on enlightenment campaign to all the flood prone communities, while calling on traditional rulers, community and religious leaders to join government in sensitizing people on the necessity to relocate to higher grounds.
