    Police detain officers over N300,000 extortion

    The police in Edo State have detained officers for allegedly extorting N300,000 from a furniture maker.

    The Command in a statement by its spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, said the officers were arrested following a viral video by a social media influencer detailing how they extort the money.

    He said the officers attached to Oba Market Area Command have been promptly identified while the money has been recovered and returned to the victim.

    According to the statement, the said officers have been detained and are to face disciplinary procedures in accordance with the extant regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

    The statement said administrative measures have been taken against the Oba Market Area Command to ensure professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rights of citizens in the discharge of their duties.

    “The Command under CP Monday Agbonika, encourages members of the public to report any unprofessional conduct by officers and men of the Command to the Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) or the Complaints Response Unit (CRU) through t dedicated telephone numbers”

    The Command assured the people of the state that it remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in service delivery.

    The statement also appreciates the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5 Headquarters, AIG Salman Dogo, for his unwavering support in entrenching accountable and transparent policing in the Zone.
