    Nasarawa gets new Police Commissioner

    A new Commissioner of Police, Umar Ahmed Chuso has assumed duty in Nasarawa State.

    Chuso assumed duty on Thursday as the 30th Commissioner of Police that would oversee the force activities in the state.

    He took over from CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, psc, mnips, who has been redeployed to the Police Staff College, Jos, as the Deputy Commandant by the Inspector-General of Police.

    According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the new CP boasts of a wealth of operational experience, administrative competence, and distinguished record of professional excellence.

    SP Nansel said CP Umar Ahmed hails from Sokoto South LGA of Sokoto State and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from the Premier Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

    “He joined the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and was trained at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State. Over the years, he has served the Nigeria Police Force in several key capacities, including Deputy Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos (31 July – 9 December 2025); Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Kano State (2023–2025); Deputy Commissioner of Police, CID, Kano State (2023); Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Delta State (2019–2022); and Pioneer Area Commander, Argungu, Kebbi State (2017–2018),” he explained in a statement released to the journalists on Thursday in Lafia.

    SP Nansel equally said that the new CP also served in various other important roles such as CSP Admin, Kebbi State; Directing Staff, Police College, Kaduna; Divisional Police Officer in Illela, Yauri, Argungu, Bagudo, Unguwar Rimi, Sokoto Central Division, Gwiwa, and Augie respectively.

    “Additionally, he has worked at FCID (Interpol) Abuja, served as Officer in Charge of Pay, and Divisional Crime Officer, Argungu, among others.

    “CP Umar has attended several professional courses both within and outside Nigeria, including Citizenship and Leadership Course, Tactical Leadership and Combat Course, Protection of Human Rights Course (Texas Southern University, Houston, USA); Higher Military Strategy Course (Army War College, Abuja); and Advanced Detective Course.

    “He is also a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Police Studies (MNIPS). His hobbies include reading and playing badminton. He is happily married and blessed with children,” he added.

    The new Commissioner of Police calls on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, religious bodies, and all residents of the State to strengthen collaboration with the Police by providing timely and credible information that will support crime prevention and enhance rapid response.

    He assured the public of renewed commitment to the protection of lives and property, and to sustaining peace, harmony, and security throughout Nasarawa State.

    He appealed for the continued support and cooperation of all stakeholders to collectively confront and overcome all forms of criminality in the State.
