The North-Central Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and former governor of the State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has thrown his weight behind the aspiration of the former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.

The former IGP is a frontline contender for the APC ticket and a staunch ally of the former governor.

Speaking during the visit of the former IGP”s campaign team to the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad I (Rtd.), in Lafia ahead of the governorship primary, Al-Makura openly convassed support for the former police boss.

The former senator representing Nasarawa South was emphatic that IGP Adamu will triumph during the primary going by the amount of grassroots support he ganered in the course of his consultations.

“Your royal majesty, we assure you that you will be proud of IGP Adamu. You will be proud of all the people doing his campaign, because we will do it in consonance with best practice and what the law says about this exercise. Finally, we want to assure you that by the special grace of God, we are going to come out in flying colours,” he stated. He said IGP Adamu is the person to beat, having worked hard for the position through grassroots mobilisations” he stated.

He called on those in charge of the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure that all the processes must conform with the Electoral Act and party guidelines.

He warned that any mode outside the direct primaries already endorsed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the national secretariat of the party will not be acceptable in Nasarawa State.

Al-Makura said the President and the party’s decision is akin to an endorsement of the people, stressing that the decision supercedes any such as action by anyone.

“This has put a line to whoever will endorse anybody for whatever purpose. The endorsement and the mandate to endorse is that of the people.

“No consensus, no preferential treatment, but the people must vote, their votes must count,” he declared.

Speaking, the former IGP appreciated the Lafia emirate and it’s people for the support he enjoyed during his tours and consultations.

He specifically thanked the Emir for the advice and guidance without which the outing will not have been successful.

“When we started this thing, I came to you for blessing, I came to you for prayer, I came to you to show us direction. And you advised that we should not be distracted, you are fully behind us, the emirate is fully behind us, Lafia people are behind us, we should go and look for support from other places.

“Whether other people support us or not, the moment we get support from the masses, we are good to go. We have taken that advice and we have gone around the state and gotten acceptance from the masses.

He said he remained focus an undistracted even though “desperate interest from higher quarters” within the state, tried to cause chaos which led to a “division within the party”, while assuring that he will come out victorious at the end of the exercise.

“We are very appreciative of the support we got so far and we believe that victory is ours. We shall come back to this place after the primaries on Thursday. We shall come to you with the good news that we have made it,” he stated.

Responding, the Emir thanked the team for the visit, and urged them to conduct their affairs in peace and harmony.
