The Director of the FCT Education Resource Centre, Hajiya Neemat D. Abdulrahim, has blamed most parents for failing woefully in the upbringing of their children, especially when it comes to their addiction to the social media.
Abdulrahim, who stated this during the graduation, speech as well as prize-giving day ceremony of Al-Ansar Standard International Academy in Kuje Area Council of the FCT on Sunday, said some parents don’t even know their children’s friend or the company they keep.
According to her, Allah has bestowed the responsibility of taking care of children on their parents and if the parents fail to train them properly, they will be cast into hell fire.
The director, who was represented by Alhaji Salka Abubakar, warned parents of the challenges children face while browsing through the social media without parental guidance.
“The positive aspect of the social media promotes education, effective communication, skills development, business investments, awareness, talent showcase, networking and emergency information, while the negative aspect causes addiction that can lead to poor academic performances, cyber bulling, immorality, and mental health disturbance,” she stressed.
She warned that children might want to emulate the negative character of a person seen in the social media, adding that by the time they start copying such character, they won’t see it as wrong.
The director urged parents to teach children about the law of privacy that guides social media and to also bring their children or wards closer to themselves.
She advised parents to properly groom their children or wards in the practice of Allah, so that they are well guided.
Earlier in his speech, the chairman of the event, Shaikh Abubakar Sani Jos, enjoined parents and guardians to always show concern towards promoting their children or wards education. He explained further that imbibing good morals in children will admit the parents to Jannatul Firdaus.
The chairman also commended the school’s management, graduands, parents and the stakeholders of Al-Ansar Academy Home for their efforts in reforming the graduands towards attaining success.
Also in her speech, the school’s Head Teacher, Mrs Sherifat Sherifdeen, thanked Allah for His protection and guidance to the school throughout the academic year, despite the challenges faced.
She commended the graduates and advised them to always inculcate the values they learnt from the school, especially in the area of discipline, honesty, humility, respect and love for one another.
The head teacher also informed the graduates to be aware that graduation is the beginning of greater responsibilities as they move on in life.
