The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Katsina State, Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita, has urged residents of the state to use the 39th anniversary of the state’s creation for sober reflection and prayers against insecurity and bad governance.
Kaita, in a congratulatory message to mark the anniversary, said that while the occasion ordinarily calls for celebration, the current challenges facing the state demand reflection and divine intervention.
The statement, signed by his Campaign Spokesman, Abubakar Ahmed, and made available to newsmen on Thursday, quoted Kaita as saying:
“With nostalgia, I wish to congratulate us all as the people of Katsina State as we, by the special grace of Allah, witness and mark yet another year after creation. This, indeed is ordinarily worth celebrating but for the fact that our people are faced with serious multiple challenges especially those of insecurity, poverty and economic backwardness caused by bad governance.
“Instead of dining and dancing therefore, I strongly recommend we have a sober reflection and pray for divine intervention so that God can in his infinite wisdom and mercy, remove us from the current terrible situation.”
The former Senator representing Katsina North observed that 39 years after its creation, the state should have made more significant progress, noting that while past leaders made efforts to develop the state, recent years have left many citizens under pressure.
He said residents continue to live in fear of bandit attacks while battling poverty and hunger.
Kaita also called on the electorate to reflect on the state’s future as the country approaches the 2027 general elections, urging them to vote for focused leadership that would bring positive change.
He said the ADC offers an alternative platform committed to inclusive governance and taking the state to greater heights.
Katsina State was created on September 23, 1987, from the old Kaduna State.
