Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger state has given reasons for advocating for single tenure for governors, elected and appointed officials arguing that it would lead to  efficiency in delivering of democratic dividends.
The Governor stated this on Friday while swearing in New Commissioners and newly elected Local Government Councils chairmen in Minna.
He argued that the guest for second term in office is affecting the focus and actions of Governors and others in terms of taking critical decisions.
He explained that his hands are tied in this regard because there are some people who should have been sacked but are leveraging on second term allotment.
” I am an advocate of single term for Governors because under one term tenure, the Governor will focus focus on his programmes in full swing instead of everybody procrastinating for tomorrow in view of second term “.
While also declaring support for the creation of state police, the Governor said, ” State Police is a reality. Community policing, social justice and equality are necessary components of democracy “.
He charged the new Commissioners and local governments chairmen to key into the New Niger agenda aimed at rescuing the state.
He said that the administration is determined to revive the health and education education sectors through provision of free medical services and free education to the children from underprivileged families.
