The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says power distribution companies (DisCos) collected N196.13 billion in revenue in March.

In its ‘commercial performance of distribution companies (DisCos)’ fact sheet for March, NERC said the figure represents a 0.28 percent decrease from the N196.68 billion revenue collected in February.

According to the fact sheet, the DisCos realised the revenue from a total energy billing of N246.43 billion in the month under review.

The NERC report said the figure represents a 1.71 percent increase from N242.29 billion billed to customers in February.

The commission said the March revenue reflects a collection efficiency of 79.59 percent — down from 81.17 percent in the previous month.

The fact sheet also showed that the total energy received by DisCos was N293.76 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in March, a 6.02 percent increase from the N277.09 billion kWh received in the previous month.

According to NERC, the allowed average tariff across DisCos was N124.30/kWh, while the actual average collection stood at N100.75/kWh for March.

The commission said the tariff collection resulted in an overall revenue recovery efficiency of 81.05 percent.

Among the individual DisCos, Ikeja Disco emerged as the strongest performer in revenue recovery, achieving 99.30 percent efficiency, followed by Eko DisCo with 95.73 percent recovery efficiency, and Benin DisCo with 85.18 percent.

In contrast, Kaduna DisCo recorded the weakest recovery rate at just 35.65 percent, while Jos and Yola DisCos also underperformed, with recovery efficiencies of 53.53 percent and 58.58 percent, respectively.

In terms of collection efficiency, Ikeja DisCo led the pack with 96.38 percent, followed by Benin DisCo at 90.97 percent and Eko DisCo at 87.68 percent.

At the lower end of the ranking, Kaduna DisCo recorded the weakest performance with a collection efficiency of 38.54 percent, while Jos and Yola DisCos posted 57.94 percent and 69.83 percent, respectively.

For billing efficiency, Eko DisCo emerged as the top performer, recording 92.30 percent, followed by Port Harcourt DisCo at 90.36 percent and Ikeja DisCo at 87.76 percent.

However, Yola DisCo recorded the lowest billing efficiency at 58.68 percent.
