    By NEXTER
Victims of the Jigawa tanker explosion have been given mass burial in Majia, Taura Local Government Area of the state.
The police had earlier confirmed 94 deaths in the explosion which occurred late Tuesday.
However, the casualties later rose to 109 according to reports on the incident.
The state governor, Umar Namadi, attended the mass burial in Majia on Wednesday.
Speaking after the funeral prayer, Governor Malam Umar Namadi extended his condolences to the immediate families of the deceased and the entire people of the state.
“In this critical time, we have nothing to do than to pray to Almighty Allah to grant the souls of our departed sons and brothers eternal rest in Jannatul Firdausi.
“All of us, including the immediate families of the victims, must take heart and accept it as an act of destiny,” the governor said.
According to the police spokesperson, the majority of the victims had gathered around the tanker to scoop fuel.
He said the fuel had spilled and was flowing through the drainage to the outskirts of the village.
“Unfortunately, villagers attempted to scoop petrol from the drainage, resulting in a flame that engulfed the area and many people perished. The fire was successfully extinguished through the combined efforts of police officers, firefighters, and good Samaritans”, Mr Adam said.
The police said Yusuf Muhammad, 32, the driver of the tanker with registration number KMC 6412 F, lost control as he drove into the town on a journey from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State.
