The National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission ( N-HYPPADEC) has restored portable water supply to Bida and environs in Niger state 20 years after lack of water in the town.

The Director of Engineering and Technical Services Engineer of the commission, Dr Itilatyaa Daniel stated this on Friday in Bida during inspection of the water works.

He said, “The rehabilitation works of the Bida water supply project by the National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Commission N-HYPPADEC has reached 90% completion and ready for commissioning. The water works plant which supplies water to Bida and environs has been moribund for over 20 years. However, the good news is that N-HYPPADEC is restoring portable water supply to the town after several years of lack”.

He explained that the Commission has also procured and installing five MVA transformers to provide steady power supply to the plant toward ensuring uninterrupted water supply in Bida.

He said, ” this rehabilitation will solve the perennial problem of portable water supply in Bida town and environs. We want to assure our people in Bida that the installation of these MVA transformers will be completed without delay and the commissioning of the project will soon take place”.

Also speaking, the Head of electrical division N-HYPADEC Engineer Ibrahim Adamu Haruna explained that the five MVA transformers are meant to run the treatment pumps, adding that, they have been test runned and confirmed satisfactory. He said that the 11 KVA line has also been upgraded to 33 KVA line which is sufficient to run the pumps.

According to him, “the project when completed, would be able to treat 5000 cubic litres per hour and this will alleviate the suffering of about two million beneficiaries of the area.
