The Nigeria Police Force has vowed to respond to evolving threats associated with explosives, improvised explosive devices, and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear hazards.
To this ens, it said it has been building the capacity of its Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear(EOD-CBRN) units across the country to deal with any situation.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of EOD-CBRN, CP Hauwa Jibrin Ibrahim, disclosed this at the closing of an expanded training for the personnel at the Police Mobile Force Training College, Ende Hills in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
LEADERSHIP reports that the Basic Operations, Proliferation and Mitigation Course for EODCBRN Operators drew participants from the EOD-CBRN departments of the Force across the country.
CP Ibrahim acknowledged that asymmetric threats, terrorism, proliferation risks, and the misuse of dual-use materials, equipment and technology have continue to pose significant dangers to national security and public safety, even as she assured that through practical training the Foce will continue to mitigate CBRN and explosive threats in line with global best practices.
She noted that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is commited t to building a modern and professional Nigeria Police Force, capable of guaranteeing security and safety across the Federation.
CP Ibrahim further explained that the training programme, which attracted 100 personnel from various EOD-CBRN formations nationwide, is a strategic step towards realizing the Inspector-General’s vision, particularly in strengthening national preparedness against explosive and CBRN threats.
She commended the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for its continued commitment to capacity development within the Nigeria Police Force, noting that the intervention demonstrates a clear understanding that modern policing requires modern skills, specialized knowledge, and continuous professional development.
Also speaking, the Commandant of the Police Mobile Training College, Ende Hills, Deputy Commissioner of Police Audu Sunday, Commandant of the Police Mobile Force Training College, stated that the Nigeria Police Force has the capacity to decisively curb criminal activities across the country, provided adequate investment is made in intensive training, improved welfare and incentives for personnel.
“We are ready despite whatever condition to be trained because the nature of crime and criminality in the country does chose climate or condition.
“We are pleading to have a combined training for PMF and EODS; Im making this request so that we have the synergy during operations,” he noted.
On his part, the h Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Saidu, represented by Bashir Umar, promised to sustain support for the Police to keep them in tune with the current reality of policing.
