The chairman National Population Commission Dr. Aminu Yusuf is dead.
He reportedly died on Friday while the sad news of his demise got broken in Minna at about the time for Friday prayer.
His death was confirmed to Blueprint by former Chairman of PDP in the state, Barrister Tanko Benji . He said ” Aminu is dead I am saddened and not in a good mood now”.
The Governor of Niger State, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has condoles with the family of the late Chairman, National Population Commission, describing his demise as shocking and collosal loss to the state and the nation.
The farmer Governor in a condolence message by his Chief Press Secretary Bologi Ibrahim, said that the Aminu’s vast experience, competence, and commitment to public service will greatly be missed at a crucial time when his services are needed to undertake the long awaited national census.
He said, ‘Nigeria has indeed lost an icon whose wealth of knowledge in demographic research, data management, and policy implementation would have been applied for better national planning and development”.
The Governor also extends his heartfelt condolences to the family of late Dr. Aminu and encourages them to remain strong even in the face of this trying time of losing a man whom he describes as dedicated family man full of compassion and down to earth.
He prayed that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, illuminate and widen his grave, and grant him entry into Aljannat Firdaus.
The late Chairman, National Population Commission, Dr. Aminu Yusuf was appointed last year by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the recommendation of the farmer governor.
He was confirmed by the Senate in October 2025 before assuming office in December 2025.
The late Dr. Aminu Yusuf who also holds the traditional title of Talban Wushishi upon assumption of Office had plans to conduct a credible, technology-driven national population and housing census in Nigeria before his demise.
