Herders have attacked farmers from Baji Community in Gurara local government of Niger state with machetes as a result three people sustained serious injuries.
The herders were also said to have confiscated farms with their cattle grazing on crops and produce.
It was gathered that before the latest attack on Tuesday, over 60 farmers have suffered various attacks in the past five years as the herders seize cultivated farmlands to feed cattle.
The traditional ruler and Madakin Baji, Malam Usman Yusuf confirmed the latest attack to journalists in Minna on Wednesday, calling on the state government and security agencies to rescue Baji community from the onslaught of the Fulani herders.
He said, ” the latest attack resulted in to severe machete injuries on three indigene farmers to namely Yahaya Ibrahim, Rabiu Jibrin, and Bashar Mohammed and it occurred around 11am on the faithful day.
According to him, from July this year to date, farmers have been threatened and banned by the Fulani herders going to their farms, while those who disobeyed are assaulted and forced out from their farms, adding that, the herders thereafter embarked on night grazing and destruction of matured crops of farmlands which has so far affected over 92 households
He regretted that a recent peace meeting involving security agencies namely the police, DSS, NSCDC, vigilante, the Gurara Council Chairman, Meyitte Allah, Secretary to the Niger state Government (SSG) and Baji community has yielded no fruitful results because the herder have continued the illegal occupation of farmlands
