The book launch of Digital Shift in Nigeria’s Newspaper Industry, authored by the Group News Editor of LEADERSHIP Newspapers, Dr Sunday Isuwa, will be held at the Nigeria Army Resource Centre, Asokoro, Abuja, on October 29, 2026.

The launch, scheduled for 10am, will examine the growing impact of digital technology on newsroom operations, journalism practice, newspaper business models and audience engagement.

Isuwa announced the change of venue in a statement titled, “Notice of Change of Venue.”.

“Please be informed that the book launch of Digital Shift in Nigeria’s Newspaper Industry by Dr Sunday Isuwa will now be held at the Nigeria Army Resource Centre, Asokoro, Abuja,” the statement said.

“The event remains scheduled for 29 October 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Please note the new venue and make your arrangements accordingly,” it added.

The publication examines how Nigerian newspapers are adapting to technological disruption as readers and advertisers increasingly migrate to digital platforms.

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the National Credit Guarantee Company Limited, RT Hon Yakubu Dogara, will chair the event.

The President of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria, Prof Rotimi Olatunji, of Lagos State University, wrote the foreword.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Shehu Usman Adamu, will review the book.

The publication has received endorsements from academics and senior media executives, who described it as a timely examination of the structural changes reshaping Nigeria’s newspaper industry.

Prof Umaru Pate of the Faculty of Communication, Bayero University, Kano, said the book offered an important examination of the industry’s transition, particularly its implications for newsroom practices and the commercial foundations of journalism.

According to Pate, the book addresses “newsroom adaptation, multimedia reporting, audience analytics, innovative revenue strategies, and the challenges presented by misinformation and shifting audience habits”.

He said Isuwa combined contemporary evidence with practical examples to examine the opportunities created by digitalisation and the difficulties confronting Nigerian newspapers.

Pate described the publication as essential reading for journalists, media scholars, policymakers and students seeking to understand the changing structure of journalism in the country.

Similarly, Prof Farooq Kperogi of Kennesaw State University, United States, said the book provided an account of how Nigerian newspapers were responding to the demands of the digital era.

Kperogi said Isuwa drew on empirical research and professional experience to examine how traditional media organisations were changing their editorial routines, business models and audience engagement strategies.

He noted that the book went beyond technological changes by examining Nigeria’s political, infrastructural and cultural circumstances.

According to him, the publication also addressed a gap in African media scholarship by examining the effects of technological disruption on the ethical, economic and professional foundations of journalism.

“It is essential reading for journalists, media managers, policymakers and students who want a concise but substantive guide to the forces that are transforming Nigerian news ecology,” Kperogi said.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the News Agency of Nigeria, Ali M Ali, described the book as a comprehensive account of the transformation of the Nigerian press.

Ali said the publication traced the development of Nigerian newspapers from their colonial beginnings to the disruption caused by digital technology.

He said it examined how newsrooms had responded to technological changes, restructured their business models and explored alternative revenue streams as more Nigerians consumed news through mobile devices.

“It considers the ethical and professional challenges faced by journalists today, highlighting the delicate balance between immediacy and accuracy, as well as the complexities of freedom of expression under regulatory pressures,” Ali said.

He added that the book placed Nigeria’s media transformation within a wider international context through comparative analysis and case studies of newspapers that had adapted to the changing environment.

Ali said the publication also considered the future of newspaper publishing in Nigeria and offered recommendations for editors, journalists, policymakers and other stakeholders seeking to build a sustainable media industry.

He urged media professionals, academics, policymakers and other stakeholders to attend the launch, describing it as an opportunity to discuss the future of journalism in Nigeria.

The event is expected to attract senior figures from the media and academic communities, with discussions likely to focus on digital innovation, ethical journalism and the 2027 general election.
