    Niger abductions: AIG Olaiya leads rescue operations, troops deploy tactical assets

    The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 7, Victor Olaiya has arrived in Minna leading tactical teams and other security assets for the rescue of the worshippers and other people abducted in Niger state last week.

     

    The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu had ordered the AIG to coordinate the rescue operation of the abducted persons in Borgu and Agwara Local Government Areas of Niger state following the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

     

    Niger state Commissioner of Police, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman made this known on Thursday while briefing Newsmen in Minna, .

     

    Represented by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Niger state Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the commissioner said, “the real rescue operation of the abducted victims begins today in strict compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu. The operation will be conducted in collaboration with other security agencies, to ensure that the victims are rescued safely”.

     

    He said , ” we are currently analysing intelligence and strategizing for a hitch free rescue mission. Tactical teams, counter terrorism unit and the EOD have been deployed for effective and efficient operations”.

     

    While assuring that all abducted people would be rescued unhurt, the commissioner explained that the figures of the abducted people are not ascertained yet, adding that families were still taking records of missing members to avoid conflicting figures.

     

    The Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Maurice Bello Magaji, assured that the state Government will continue to provide security agencies with all the necessary support needed to nip in the bud cases of security challenges bedeviling it’s people.

     

    He called on the communities to support in the fight against terrorists and other criminalities in their domain, adding that, “no government will be happy with the killing of its citizens, hence the state government has prioritised security of lives and properties”.
