IWD: FIDA urges priority for girl-child education, empowermen

The Chairman of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Barrister Bolanle Ajibogun has urged government and parents to give adequate priority to the education and empowerment  of the girl-child for a brighter future.
Barrister Ajibogun stated this at the weekend at an event marking the International Women Day celebration in Minna.
According to Barrister Ajibogun, who is also the Director of the Legal Aid Council in Niger state, women and girls deserved unhindered access to education and economic empowerment, adding that, “Niger State chapter of FIDA is committed to promoting gender equality and social justice”.
She said, ” there are challenges
faced by women and girls, advocating for better education and economic opportunities. I therefore want to emphasize the importance of inspiring collaboration among partners, stakeholders, and community leaders to combat systemic inequalities that perpetuate gender-based discrimination and violence”.

According to her, “We must work collaboratively to create a society where every woman and girl can thrive”.

In a remark, the Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik explained that empowerment is crucial in the emancipation of women and the girl-child.

Represented by Justice Maimuna Aminu Abubakar, the Chief Judge encouraged women to share their personal stories including both their triumphs and challenges in order to mentor the female youths.

“When we share our stories, we not only uplift others but also break the chains that have held women back for too long,” she stated.

She argued that empowerment of the girl-child must be done at every level of the society in ensuring that women have access to the resources, skills, and platforms necessary for their development and growth.
