A faction of the African Democratic Congress has submitted the names of its presidential and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission, saying the exercise was completed in line with the Electoral Act 2022.
The faction, led by its National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, also announced Dr. Shamsuddeen Modibbo Barkindo as the vice-presidential candidate to run alongside its presidential flag bearer, Prof. Chris Uba.
In a statement issued on Monday, Gombe said the upload of candidates’ particulars on the INEC nomination portal complied with Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and the electoral guidelines issued by the commission.
He described the completion of the nomination process as a major step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
“The African Democratic Congress, under the leadership of the National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, has successfully concluded the uploading of its presidential and National Assembly candidates on the INEC portal for the 2027 General Elections,” the statement read.
Gombe added that the party was pleased to present Barkindo as its vice-presidential candidate, saying the decision reflected its commitment to offering credible and competent leadership capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
According to the party, Prof. Uba, 71, an indigene of Anambra State, will contest the presidential election, while Barkindo, 65, from Adamawa State, will serve as his running mate.
The party said Uba studied at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and other institutions in the United Kingdom, while Barkindo attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Documents submitted to INEC showed that the candidates’ nomination forms were endorsed by the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary, with the commission requiring sworn affidavits (Form EC9) from each candidate in line with the Electoral Act.
