Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago is part of the Federal Government’s delegation at the 17th edition of the BRICS Summit holding in Brazil.
A statement issued in Minna by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Bologi Ibrahim explained that his principal is in the delegation  along with some selected Governors and Ministers led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the two day event.
“Governor Bago will use the opportunity to seek international collaborations in various sectors and woo investors to the State”, he said.
According to him, ” at the summit, President Tinubu is expected to deliver an address during a plenary session where he will be highlighting Nigeria’s ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning its economy for global competitiveness”.
He explained that Nigeria was formally admitted as the ninth BRICS partner Country in January 2025, a status introduced at the 16th BRICS Summit in October 2024.
“As a partner country, Nigeria can participate in BRICS meetings, summits, and initiatives, contributing to discussions and official documents”, he said.
Nigeria became a partner country of the BRICS economic and political bloc after officially accepting the invitation to join as a partner country in January 2025.
BRICS was established in 2006 and initially included Brazil, Russia, India, and China with South Africa joining in 2010 while in 2023, the Organisation expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.
Nigeria’s partnership with BRICS is seen as a significant development in the restructuring of global economic and political power.
