The Police Service Commission has extended the deadline for the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police constables by two weeks.

The new closing date for applications is now February 8, 2026, instead of the earlier January 25 deadline.

The extension was announced on Monday by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs at the PSC, Mr Torty Njoku Kalu, in a statement issued in Abuja.

Kalu said the decision was taken jointly by the PSC and the Nigeria Police Force following a review of the application process.

He disclosed that more than 400,000 applications have so far been received since the recruitment portal opened on December 15, 2025.

According to him, the review revealed significant disparities in the number of applications across states of the federation.

While states such as Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna recorded high application figures, others including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra had comparatively low submissions.

Kalu said the extension was aimed at promoting equitable representation across all states in the recruitment exercise.

“The Commission and the Nigeria Police Force have agreed to extend the deadline to ensure that no state is underrepresented in the new intake of constables,” he said.

He urged eligible Nigerians, particularly those from states with low application numbers, to take advantage of the extension and apply through the official recruitment portal.

The PSC spokesman also called on state governments, local government councils, religious and sociocultural organisations, community leaders and other stakeholders to sensitise and mobilise eligible youths to participate in the exercise.

“The goal is to reach as many qualified applicants as possible before the new closing date,” the statement added.

The PSC and the NPF reaffirmed their commitment to a fair, transparent and inclusive recruitment process, stressing that every qualified Nigerian would be given equal opportunity to serve in the Nigeria Police Force.
