Residents of several communities in Bida Local Government Area of Niger State are in celebratory mood following the gradual restoration of electricity supply after a period of power outage that had sparked frustration across the affected areas.
The communities, including Darachita, Bangaie, Low Cost, Kobo Area, Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Quarters, Polytechnic Layout and Cabs Layout, are now witnessing steady repair works on the Barrack Feeders network after the arrival of critical materials from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
At the centre of the intervention is the Niger State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Hon. Suleiman Umar, whose hands-on approach and sustained engagement with stakeholders have been widely credited for accelerating the restoration process.
According to community leaders, the commissioner maintained constant communication with AEDC officials and closely monitored efforts to secure the materials needed for repairs.
His determination, they said, ensured that the response came faster than many residents had anticipated.
The turning point came when AEDC delivered poles, cables and other repair equipment to Bida. Rather than allowing delays to set in, technicians immediately mobilised to the affected locations, commencing replacement and reconnection works across the affected communities.
Residents described the sight of engineers arriving with materials and beginning repairs as a reassuring indication that their concerns had been heard and that the government was committed to resolving the problem.
They noted that beyond making assurances, the commissioner actively followed up on engagements with key stakeholders, including Hon. D. Aliyu and the member representing Bida North, while ensuring that every stage of the intervention process was tracked until the materials arrived.
The communities also acknowledged the contributions of the Chairman of the Niger State Internal Revenue Service, Mohammed Madami Etsu, whose support reportedly facilitated coordination efforts between the state government and AEDC.
Observers say the intervention reflects the growing emphasis of the administration of Farmer Governor Umar Mohammed Bago on responsive governance, service delivery and infrastructure development under the New Niger Agenda.
Since assuming office, Farmer Governor Umar Mohammed Bago has consistently prioritised projects and policies aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens across the state’s 25 local government areas.
Speaking on the development, Hon. Umar urged communities across the state to continue embracing dialogue and constructive engagement whenever challenges arise.
He stressed that the state government remains committed to working with relevant agencies and stakeholders to improve electricity supply across Niger State and ensure that residents enjoy the benefits of sustainable development.
For many in Bida, the ongoing intervention serves as a reminder that meaningful progress can be achieved when dialogue replaces confrontation and stakeholders work together toward a common goal, a principle that aligns closely with the vision of the New Niger Agenda championed by Farmer Governor Bago’s administration.
