    5 die of cholera outbreak in Niger

    5 die of cholera outbreak in Niger

    The outbreak of cholera has claimed five lives in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.
    NEXTER gathered from a health personnel that the disease has also spread to Paiko town in neighbouring Paikoro Local Government Area of the state.
    The health worker who spoke to our reporter in confidence said four new cases were reported in a hospital in Paiko.
    He attribute the outbreak of the disease to lack of potable drinking water, adding that, ” there no water in our facility for the use of the patients.
    The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Doctor Muhammad Gana confirmed the outbreak in Minna even as he said a team of health professionals have been sent to the area to stop the spread of the disease.
    He, however, declined to comment on the casualties. He said the ministry is yet to receive report of the outbreak of cholera in Paikoro local government.
    He advised the people to pay serious attention to their personal and environmental hygiene because cholera is a water and sanitation problem.
