The Coalition of over 30 youth organizations in Niger state has decried 27 years of marginalisation of the Suleja emirate, deprived from occupying the Niger East Senatorial seat since 1999 insisting that its is the turn of  the emirate to have a shot at the seat in 2027.
The Spokesman of the Coalition, Comrade Shehu Hassan Suleja stated this in a briefing on Wednesday explaining that the decision to demand for the rotation of the senatorial seat from Minna emirate to Suleja emirate was taken at the youth organizations’ stakeholders meeting in New Wuse, Tafa localgovernmentof the state.
He said, ” the coalition resolved to call on the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago and other critical political stakeholders in the state to consider rotating the Niger East Senatorial seat to Suleja emirate in the 2027 elections. The Coalition of Youth Associations in Suleja emirate are deeply concerned that the area has been denied the position since the return of democracy in 1999. It is therefore politically expedient for Suleja emirate to produce the next Senator representing Zone B in 2027 having been denied the position for 27 years”.
He argued that all previous occupants from 1999 to date; Senator Idris Ibrahim Kuta, Senator Awaisu Kuta, Senator David Umaru and the present occupant of the seat, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa are from Minna emirate, adding that, ” it is therefore in the interest of equity and fairness to rotate the seat to Suleja emirate which consists of three local government areas of Suleja, Tafa and Gurara “.
He said, “The Youth Coalition also unanimously agreed that continued stagnation of Niger East Senatorial seat at Minna Emirate amounts to injustice, a threat to democracy and a deliberate intention to sideline others from the political scene”.
Comrade Shehu Suleja said the youth coalition has endorsed the state Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago for a second term while Barrister Bello Bawa Bwari, Director General, National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) was endorsed for Niger East Senatorial seat onder the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.
He explained that the Coalition’s support for Governor Bago’s re-election and the endorsement of Bawa Bwari is based on their track-record of achievements especially in their current positions.
“The youth organizations involved in this project include, APC Door to Door, Suleja Progressive Minds, and BBBB Pioneers for Progress. In fact, let me assure you that over 30 organizations are actively participating in this cogent demand for the Zone B senatorial seat to rotate from Minna to Suleja in 2027”.
