The Niger State Government has commenced talks with Russia to explore Sunflower Oil and other Agro investment opportunities in the East European Nation.
To this end, the Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago met with the representatives of EFKO Group, regarded as one of the three largest agro-industrial Companies in Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union.
The Chief Press Secretary  ( CPS) to the Governor, Bologi Ibrahim stated this in a statement issued in Minna on Friday.
He explained that the farmer Governor leading other top Government functionaries had  deliberation with the Company on areas of partnership primarily to enhance agriculture and food processing in the State.
According to the Governor, “the state will greatly benefit from the partnership, there would be improved techniques of farming and processing as well as the empowering of local farmers”.
The meeting with the potential investors also explored partnership in broader food processing areas including public-private partnerships and several other areas of investment.
Both parties are expected to conduct feasibility studies to determine the suitability of Niger State’s land for sunflower farming while discussions continue on contract terms and infrastructure development.
