Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru has described the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) as a key partner in addressing some of the environmental challenges in the State.

He said,  “ACReSAL  is a wonderful initiative from the World Bank whose scheme has tremendously assisted the State in various areas. I therefore call for stronger ties in order to sumount other challenges especially in areas connected with water treatment and transportation”.
He appreciated the team for the sympathy visit and informed them that the State Government is working with the National Bureau of Statistics to work out how to ascertain the number of people who lost their lives in the Mokwa flood disaster, adding that a-lot of advocacy is being carried out to move people out of flood plain areas.
Speaking earlier, the Task team leader of the Implementation Support Mission, ACReSAL, Dr. Joy Agene  said that the visit to the Governor was to commiserate with the State over the unfortunate flood in Mokwa Local Government Area.
She used the opportunity to inform him of the team’s mission of assessing ACReSAL projects in the State, adding that the team has earlier visited Mokwa to assess extent of damage done by the flood disaster and to put in place measures to prevent reoccurrence of floods in the area.
