The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Zonal Office in Minna, is currently prosecuting six cases in court , the Resident Commissioner of the commission, Kennedy Ebotemen has said.

Ebotemen stated this when he received the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Niger State Council, Comrade Abu Nmodu in a courtesy visit.

He implored people to feel free in forwarding petitions to the commission while assuring that such petitioners would be protected under the secrecy laws of the commission.

He expressed concern over the dearth of petitions to the commission by citizens , adding that, “we have six cases of corruption in court and this is because of the depth of petitions we received. I want to encourage the public to be sending more genuine informations and petitions which would be treated as confidential”.

The Resident Commissioner stressed the importance of stronger synergy between the ICPC and the NUJ, adding that journalists have greater role to play in the fight against corruption in the country.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of NUJ Niger State Council, Comrade Abu Nmodu solicited for the support and cooperation of the commission in the media coverage of its activities.

He urged the Resident Commissioner to replicate the training of journalists programmes embarked on by the headquarters of the commission at the zone, adding that this would further cement the existing cordial relationship and partnership between the union and the commission.
