    By Oboh Linus, Lafia

The former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a candidate for Obi/Lafia Federal Constituency, Hajiya Farida Umar, has vowed to prioritise the interests of women and youth if elected into the Green Chamber.

Hajiya Umar, who secured the ticket on the platform of PDP, made the promise while speaking to newsmen in Lafia shortly after her affirmation as a candidate for Obi/Lafia Federal Constituency.

Mr Humphrey Uhagwa, Chairman of the PDP Primary Elections Committee for Nasarawa State and an official from the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, announced her affirmations alongside Arch.

Mohammed Jafaru as the PDP governorship candidate.
The PDP also affirmed Dr Mike Omeri, Former Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) as a candidate for the Nasarawa South Senatorial Seat.

The former deputy publicity secretary said the overwhelming turnout showed that the people trust her capacity and commitment to grassroots representation.

Umar stated that the decision to contest was driven by years of working with women and youth groups, and the call from the people to represent them.

She noted that women have been sidelined in politics for too long and said the 2027 elections present an opportunity to change the narrative.

“Women have been sidelined for too long, this is our time now. In Nigeria, it’s women who go out to cast their vote, you will see them in the rain, in the sun, casting their vote. So it’s their time now for me to speak for them.

“This movement is for all women and youth in Lafia and Obi.
We are going to take your concerns and challenges to the Green Chamber if elected.

“This time around, our voice will be louder in the Green Chamber, and by the grace of God, it will be heard,” she said.

She appealed to voters in Lafia and Obi to come out en masse and support her candidacy in the 2027 general elections.

“You have seen my work in time past, you know my capacity, and I will do much more. So, I’m appealing to you for continuous support, come out when the time comes to vote for me immensely,” she appealed.

The Kabiru Tanimu-Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had conducted a parallel party primaries on Thursday in Nasarawa state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
