The Aren Eggon, the paramount ruler of Eggon nation in Nasarawa State, His Royal Highness, Honourable Justice Ahmed Ubangari Alaku I (rtd), will be provided with staff of office on 13th June.
The ceremony is coming about 40 years after the late Aren Eggon, Dr. Bala Abaine Angbazo was coronated by the then governor of Plateau State, Chief Solomon Lar.
LEADERSHIP recalls that Justice Alaiku I, a former Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, emerged the Aren Eggon on Friday 5th May 2023, following a rigorous selection process by the Eggon Kingmakers.
Prior to his selection, he served as the Wazirin Eggon during the reign of his predecessor, HRH Dr. Bala Abaine Angbazo, who passed on on Wednesday 13th July 2022.
A statement by the Central Planning and Coordinating Committee for the Coronation signed by the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau and Alhaji Isiyaku Abdullah’s, Galadima Eggon, chairman and alternate chairman respectfully, said the tentative date for the event was approved by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
The statement noted that the historic event will formally usher in the reign of His Royal Highness, as the Paramount Ruler of the Eggon nation and one of the foremost traditional rulers in the State.
“The occasion of his coronation is particularly significant as it marks the presentation of a Staff of Office to an Aren Eggon in over four decades.
“The last such ceremony took place on Saturday 12th February 1983, when the then Governor of Plateau State, Solomon Lar, presented the Staff of Office to the immediate past Aren Eggon, Dr. Bala Abaine Angbazo. It is important to note that the Aren Eggon stool was upgraded to 1st Class Status on 1st June 1982 by the Plateau State Government.
“The forthcoming ceremony therefore represents not only a celebration of royal heritage and cultural identity, but also a historic milestone for the Eggon people across Nasarawa State, Nigeria, and the diaspora,” it stated.
Activities lined up for the coronation ceremony are expected to showcase the rich cultural heritage, unity, and enduring traditions of the Eggon people.
It called on all Eggon sons and daughters, traditional institutions, community leaders, political stakeholders, friends, associates, and well-wishers of the Eggon nation to prepare to be part of this epoch-making event.
