Former Senator Ehigie Uzamere, has cautioned Benin sons and daughters to desist from casting aspersions on the the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II and the throne on conventional and social media.

Uzamere who represented the Edo South senatorial district, stated this at the maiden edition of the Benin Unity Summit, tagged: Benin Unity Summit 2025 in Benin.

According to him, the Benin monarch is the symbol of respect and dignity of the Benin nation and must be respected and treated as such.

“We must respect leaders in authority and stop casting aspersions on our leaders and sole traditional ruler, Oba Ewuare II, Oba of Benin, in conventional media, beer parlours, and social media,” he said.

In his goodwill message, the Senator representing the Edo South, Senator Neda Imasuen, urged members of the forum to forget the past, forgive and learn to speak with one voice adding that, that is the only way they can be respected among the comity of states.

He noted that the problem militating against the Benin nation is that nobody wants to sacrifice but everyone wants to be a leader.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Convener, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, noted that the group is apolitical and should not be used to feather political interest but to foster love, unity and progress of the Edo south.

He lamented that the various local governments that make up the Edo south senatorial district have been abandoned by the inhabitants who now find themselves in the city, making it to be overcrowded to the detriment of those local governments which should be developed.

Also Senator Roland Owie in his goodwill message, called for the promotion of the good moral values that the Benin nation is known for, in order to build a prosperous nation.

He urged all sons and daughters of the senatorial district to reawaken the values of honesty and love which they were once known for.
