Manchester City have won the English FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
Antoine Semenyo, the Ghanaian International, scored the only goal of the match in 72 minutes to complete a domestic cup double for Man City for the second time.
The January signing ensured Pep Guardiola lifted his third FA Cup triumph as coach, and Man City’s eighth triumph in the oldest cup competition in football.
Man City were dominant in the scrappy affair that produced few chances, with Erling Haaland seeing a goal chalked off for offside before forcing a save in the first half, while Semenyo nodding narrowly over with an effort early in the second half.
Semenyo eventually scored the winner with a cheeky back-heeled effort that trickled into the net from Haaland’s assist. The £65 million January signing becomes the first Ghanaian player in history to score in an FA Cup final.
The win ended a run of two FA Cup final defeats for Guardiola, and inflicted a fourth consecutive final defeat at Wembley Stadium on Chelsea.
Man City also extended their unbeaten run over Chelsea to 13 matches, as the Blues ended a disappointing campaign in which the club has sacked two coaches.
