The Senators representing Niger East and Niger North at the National Assembly, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa and Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, have won the All Progressives Congress APC primaries based on concensus affirmation.
The Niger State Publicity Secretary of the party, Musa Sarkinkaji stated this in Minna on Monday while speaking to journalists on the conduct of the primaries in Niger state.
He explained that while consensus agreements were reached in Niger East also known as Zone B and Niger North also known as Zone C, a concensus candidate could not emerged in Niger South senatorial district of the state also known as Zone A.
He assured that the party leadership has arranged for free and fair primaries election in the zone, adding that, “as I speak all necessary materials and other arrangements have been made to conduct free, fair and acceptable primaries in Zone A”.
The publicity secretary said the party has also successfully completed the conduct of primaries for House of Representatives mostly based on concensus arrangements.
He said, ” we commend farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago the for having sleepless nights trying to reconcile the aspirants to ensure we have a free exercise in the state. Many aspirants are contesting senatorial positions in Niger south in Niger and concensus was not reached in the zone. However, there is not going to be election but affirmation in Niger North and Niger East. All those who are supposed to contest have decided to step aside and allow the former governor Abubakar Sani Bello to continue. Like wise the governor has taken series of meetings to reconcile the two aspirants contesting in Zone B, they were able to resolve and the whole thing has been left to the present senator sani musa to continue. Today in Niger East and Niger North senatorial district it is going to be affirmation”.
According to him, the Governor had done all possible best to reconcile Niger South aspirants but they were not able to resolve among themselves adding that, ” therefore the Governor said they should go to the poll and ordered the party to ensure free and fair primaries and that people must comply with the voting regulations while the party will ensure free and fair elections”.
