    *Advices against twisting of history

    By NEXTER

A civil society organization, the Good Governance and Accountability Forum (GGAF), has dismissed what it described as a “malicious and misleading campaign” against Rt. Hon. Dr. Musa Ahmed Muhammed, the accountant general of Nasarawa state, and Baraden Nasarawa over his alleged role in the 2013 impeachment episode involving former Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

The group said contrary to false reports, the former Speaker actually played a stabilizing role that prevented a total breakdown of law and order in the state.

Speaking to journalists in Lafia on Tuesday while reacting to the lastest media campaign against the accountant general, the Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Kingsley Abdul, said it was unfortunate that some individuals were trying to twist historical facts for political purposes, adding that Dr. Musa Ahmed Muhammed has not declared for any elective position, including the governorship of Nasarawa State in 2027.

“It is disheartening that people are already constructing propaganda around a man who has not told anyone he is contesting,” Abdul said.

According to him, as Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly in 2013, Dr. Musa Ahmed Muhammed used his office to calm an already volatile political situation that could have thrown the state into chaos.

He noted that the former Speaker’s role during the impeachment saga was that of moderation and peace-building, not confrontation. “If not for his maturity and firm handling of the Assembly, the situation could have degenerated into political violence,” Abdul added.

The GGAF Chairman emphasized that Dr. Musa Ahmed’s leadership style during that period earned him respect from both the executive and legislative arms of government.

He said the former Speaker maintained constant dialogue with Governor Al-Makura and key stakeholders to ensure that legislative processes did not derail the state’s democratic stability.

“Baraden Nasarawa’s intervention saved the day. He prevented the House from being hijacked by extremists who wanted to destabilize Nasarawa,” Abdul stated

Abdul further noted that the attempt to label the former Speaker as a “betrayer” or “opportunist” was politically motivated and lacked factual basis.

He said such attacks were designed to tarnish the image of a man whose contributions to governance and public service had remained exemplary.

“Dr. Musa has since transitioned into a respected technocrat and accountant known for transparency and fiscal discipline. He is not driven by political desperation but by a passion for institutional reform,” he said.

The Forum urged members of the public to disregard what it called “historical revisionism,” stressing that the 2013 events should be remembered for how peace was restored — not for false accusations of conspiracy.

Abdul maintained that those who witnessed the events firsthand can testify that Baraden Nasarawa chose peace over power, dialogue over division.

“History must be told correctly. He saved Nasarawa from political crisis, not the other way around,” he said.

Abdul also called on media practitioners to verify facts before publishing stories that could incite division or malign the integrity of public figures.

He noted that as a statesman, Dr. Musa has consistently supported successive administrations, including that of Governor Abdullahi Sule, in their drive for economic growth and good governance.

“He has always prioritized the unity and development of Nasarawa State above personal ambition,” the GGAF Chairman remarked.

The group, therefore, advised political actors and commentators to focus on constructive discourse rather than character assassination.

“Dr. Musa Ahmed Muhammed remains one of Nasarawa’s most experienced and disciplined public servants. He deserves commendation, not condemnation, for his role in preserving the state’s democracy during one of its most turbulent moments,” it stated.

Our correspondent reports that the media outing marks the latest in a series of coordinated attacks against Dr. Musa, the Baraden Nasarawa, a man widely admired across Nasarawa State for his humility, intellect, and dedication to public service.

Despite his silence and consistent focus on promoting good governance and fiscal accountability, detractors have continued to target him with falsehoods and political propaganda.

However, residents and stakeholders across the state have repeatedly expressed their confidence in his integrity, describing him as a disciplined leader whose calm disposition and people-oriented approach have earned him deep respect among both the political class and the ordinary citizens of Nasarawa.
