The Creation of Kainji State out of Kebbi and Niger States will enhance the development of the area and ensure equity, fairness and justice to the people.
The Chairman of the Steering Committee on the movement for the creation of Kainji state, Ambassador Ahmed Ibeto stated this in a press briefing in Minna on Friday.
According to him, ” all the constitutional requirements for the creation of Kainji state have been met”, adding that it deserved the opportunity to become a state.
He explained that the state when created will comprise of the three emirates of Kontagora Borgu in the present Niger state and Zuru in Kebbi state.
Ibeto said that the three Emirates have agreed through Memorandum of Understanding to locate the headquarter of the proposed Kainji state in Kontagora because of the availability of infrastructure and its being central of the state.
According to him, “currently Kontagora has six local government areas, Zuru has four local governments while Borgu has two councils and this is potential advantage in the agitation for the creation of the Kainji state”.
He argued that the demand for Kainji state is genuine in the interest of equity, justice and fairness, adding that, “Niger state is the only state that has not been split since its creation in 1976 despite its size, over 2.4 million population and occupying 47,000 square kilometers out of the current 76,363 square kilometers of Niger state”.
