NEXTER The federal government has declared Tuesday, July 15, a public holiday to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the break in a statement released through the permanent secretary in the ministry, Magdalene Ajani on Monday. “President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. “This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld,” the minister stated.
By NEXTER President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked Vice President Kassim Shettima to accompany the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari to Nigeria for burial. President Tinubu ‘s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed in a statement. The statement said President Tinubu confirmed the death of Buhari in UK hospital. The president was also said to have spoken with Mrs Aisha Buhari, the former president’s widow and offered his deep condolences. Former President Buhari was twice elected Nigeria’s President in 2015 and 2023. He also served as military head of state between January 1984 and August 1985.
